Brad and I have been pretty lazy hikers this season. We usually do 12 – 24 mile “day hikes” but this year I doubt we ever went past a 10 miler. However we have seen some new lakes and revisited some old favorites! Our mornings in June Lake typically consist of drinking coffee, looking at maps and wondering where we should go to that day. This day was no exception.
This hike was a pretty easy hike. It is a perfect half day trail. The trail meanders up in a series of switch backs. As you start to gain some elevation you can look out and see White Mountain in one direction and Mammoth Mountain the other direction. Just before the lake the trail becomes a weird mix of life and death as new plants look to be recovering from a fire.
We had originally planned to go from Sherwin Lake to Valentine Lake which is an additional 3 miles but decided against it (like I said very lazy hikers this year!) We cruised around the Lake and found this hidden stream, ate some lunch and headed home.
